Tarakihi are a highly-sought after fish in New Zealand. They’re silvery-grey, with a blue-green sheen, which shades to silver and white on the belly. There is a distinctive black band immediately behind the head.
Tarakihi has medium to firm white flesh with a low to medium oil content, and is suitable for most cooking methods. Try using it in our healthy baked fish and chips recipe.

Tarakihi is managed under a quota set by the QMS, which is New Zealand's national fisheries management system. The commercial quota for the 2021/2022 year has been set at 5,059 tonnes.
